Donut Recipe

These sugar donuts are light and fluffy, with a golden exterior that's beautifully dusted with sugar. They have a subtly sweet flavour and a satisfying texture that makes them a great accompaniment to your morning coffee or an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

  • Oil for frying

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. Combine: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms. Knead gently on a floured surface until smooth.

  4. Shape the Donuts: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to cut out donuts and holes.

  5. Fry: Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

  6. Coat in Sugar: While still warm, coat the donuts in granulated sugar for a sweet finish.
