Naan Bread

This naan bread is a delightful flatbread made with simple ingredients and cooked to perfection. It has a slightly charred exterior with a soft, airy texture that makes it perfect for scooping up dips or sauces.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

  • Optional: minced garlic, chopped cilantro for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Make a well in the center and add yogurt and warm water. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 1 hour.

  3. Shape the Naan: Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

  4. Cook the Naan: Heat a skillet or tandoor over high heat. Place the rolled naan on the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another minute until golden brown. Optionally, brush with melted butter or garlic before serving.

  5. Serve Warm: Enjoy the naan warm, either on its own or with your favourite dips and curries.
