Naan Bread
This naan bread is a delightful flatbread made with simple ingredients and cooked to perfection. It has a slightly charred exterior with a soft, airy texture that makes it perfect for scooping up dips or sauces.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
Optional: minced garlic, chopped cilantro for topping
Instructions
Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Make a well in the center and add yogurt and warm water. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 1 hour.
Shape the Naan: Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
Cook the Naan: Heat a skillet or tandoor over high heat. Place the rolled naan on the skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another minute until golden brown. Optionally, brush with melted butter or garlic before serving.
Serve Warm: Enjoy the naan warm, either on its own or with your favourite dips and curries.
