Scones Recipe

These scones have a slightly crisp exterior and a soft, tender interior that melts in your mouth. They are subtly sweet with a buttery richness that makes them utterly irresistible. Serve them warm with clotted cream and jam for a classic treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

  • 3/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1 large egg (optional, for egg wash)

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or dried fruit (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Add Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and stir until just combined. If using, fold in chocolate chips or dried fruit.

  5. Shape the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick.

  6. Cut the Scones: Use a sharp knife or a pastry cutter to slice the circle into wedges. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet.

  7. Optional Egg Wash: If desired, brush the tops with a beaten egg for a golden finish.

  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the scones to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving warm with clotted cream and your favorite jam.
