Scones Recipe
These scones have a slightly crisp exterior and a soft, tender interior that melts in your mouth. They are subtly sweet with a buttery richness that makes them utterly irresistible. Serve them warm with clotted cream and jam for a classic treat.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 large egg (optional, for egg wash)
1/2 cup chocolate chips or dried fruit (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and stir until just combined. If using, fold in chocolate chips or dried fruit.
Shape the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick.
Cut the Scones: Use a sharp knife or a pastry cutter to slice the circle into wedges. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet.
Optional Egg Wash: If desired, brush the tops with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
Cool and Serve: Allow the scones to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving warm with clotted cream and your favorite jam.
